How to reset your controller

We'll show you how to reset your DualSense (PS5) or PS4 controller, as well as what to do if you can't press the reset button. Please use this if you have any problems.

What you need

PS5 console

Please prepare your PS5 console so that you can check its operation after resetting.

USB cable

When checking operation after a reset, you must do so using a wired connection.

Thin rod

The reset button is located deep inside a small hole, so you will need a thin rod to press it.

1. Turn off the power to your PS5 console

If your PS5 is already powered off, skip this step.
*Please proceed to step 2.

If the power is on, first close all running games and apps.

Next, on the home screen, press the PS button on the controller and select "Power" > "Turn Off PS5" on the far right of the menu that appears.

After confirming that the power light on the PS5 console is completely off, proceed to step 2.

2. Reset the controller

Next, press the reset button on your controller.
The reset button is located behind a small hole on the back of the controller.
It is difficult to press it with your finger, so use a thin object such as a toothpick or paperclip and press and hold it for about 3 to 5 seconds.

■What if I can't press the reset button?

Because the holes are small, it may be difficult to insert a thick toothpick, etc.
In such cases, use something thinner, such as a sewing needle or a thin pin.

3. Connect to the device via USB or C-TYPE cable

Finally, connect the PS5 console and controller with a USB cable and press the PS button on the controller. If the PS5 turns on, the reset is complete.
